McCoy Creek

Between some hot, dry elk hunting I went fishing on McCoy Creek. The fishing was pretty poor as all the holes where fish should have been were vacant for activity. I did catch two small cutthroats on small grasshoppers flies. McCoy Creek was probably a good 12+ inches low for this time of year which I am sure contributed to the poor quality of fishing.

Here are a couple of pictures of the McCoy Creek headwaters near Clear Creek:

May try to get away from hoppers and you may be shocked at how better you do. I fish that creek this time of year and always slay em on renegades, elk hair caddis, and Adams all in size 16. We stopped and fished for an hour on sat and pulled out a dozen in 45 min and missed another 5 or 6.

It sounds like you had a great day! What part of the creek were you fishing on? Down low or higher up? Since I was elk hunting, I wasn't carrying my normal load of flies so my selection was limited. I happy that you had a good day on McCoy Creek. It is a beautiful stream.
